| Alpha Course presents basics of ‘new evangelizatiom’; ‘Catholism 201’ continues discussion at Holy Family Parish Posting Date: 06-19-2012 |
On May 10 a Taste of Alpha luncheon event was well attended at Holy Family Parish. Father Hao Dinh, pastor, welcomed the guests and Father Tito Jesus Cartagenas, parochial vicar, was present.
Representatives from various parishes included Father Larry Goode from St. Francis of Assisi in Palo Alto, Father Andrew Nguyen from St. Christopher, Father Michael Hendrikson from St. Victor, Yvonne Chow, representing the Chinese Catholic Community, Ignacio Coloma, master catechist from Most Holy Trinity, and many others who came to discover the New Evangelization properties of the Alpha Course.
Deacon Steve Mitchell, National Director of Alpha for Catholics, together with Pastor Jake Kim, Northern California Regional Alpha Director, presented Alpha as an effective, affordable and efficient method of renewal.
According to Yvonne Durnad, Alpha coordinator at Holy Family Parish, “Deacon Mitchell strongly recommends Father James Mallon’s (Halifax, Nova Scotia) ‘Catholicism 201’ as a great follow-up to Alpha.”
Durand explained, “Father Mallon refers to Alpha as Catholicism 101, since Alpha presents core Christian beliefs. Alpha prepares the human heart for the fullness of Catholic Teaching, presented in Catholicism 201, by introducing people to the risen Jesus in a profound way.”
Holy Family Parish will present “Catholicism 201,” beginning Mon., June 25, 7 pm. All are welcome. (Previous attendance at Alpha is not necessary.)
